FATAL STABBING SPURS PRISON TO LOCK DOWN.(CAPITAL REGION)

The maximum-security Coxsackie Correctional Facility will remain locked down for the next several days as authorities investigate the stabbing death of an inmate late Sunday, officials said.

The inmate suffered several puncture wounds to the chest, back and arms and collapsed around 7 p.m. after stumbling to a guard post trying to get help. Correction officers tried unsuccessfully to revive him, and he was pronounced dead after being rushed to Albany Medical Center Hospital, according to Michael Houston, a spokesman for the state Department of Correctional Services.
